Among the most used drugs in the field of aesthetic medicine there is undoubtedly Botox®, based on the so-called purified botulinum toxin type A. With the injection of this substance it is possible to inhibit the nerve impulse at the muscular level.
Thanks to Botox® you can eliminate expression wrinkles, caused by the contraction of the mimic muscles placed between the eyebrows, but also interciliary wrinkles and the famous “crow’s feet”. This substance, however, is also used for the treatment of hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating.
Botulinum toxin is produced by the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum. These bacteria are dangerous to human life and, if ingested, can lead to muscle paralysis or death. However, botox treatment® is quite safe especially when used in small doses and injected. It transmits a nerve impulse to a muscle cell and causes it to contract. With the absence of acetylcholine, the muscle cell weakens, inhibits its contractile capacity and leads to paralysis of the muscle. Botox injection® is limited to the area being treated, simply because the effect is temporary since the nerve fibers have the ability to regenerate after a few months by releasing the neurotransmitter again which will restart the process of muscle contraction.
